ComicSnap Viewer User Guide

From installation to detailed instructions for all 14 features.

🪟 Windows: Seeing "Windows protected your PC"?

This isn't a bug — it's Windows SmartScreen's standard warning for new apps. Click "More info," then "Run anyway."

🍎 Mac: Seeing "can't be opened because it is damaged"?

This isn't a bug — it's macOS Gatekeeper's standard warning for new apps. Right-click (or Ctrl+click) the app and choose "Open."

🎁 The trial lets you read up to 50 pages and watch up to 10 minutes of video, starting from your 4th book.

1. Zero-Extraction Instant Archive Loading

Simply drag and drop (or open) `ZIP`, `CBZ`, `RAR`, `CBR`, `7Z`, and `CB7` archive files — no need to extract them with separate software first. ComicSnap unpacks everything into memory automatically, so reading begins in a blazing 0.2–0.3 seconds.

📖 2. Two-Page Spread View with Page-Shift Correction

One-click display customization built for manga reading. Spread mode shows two pages side by side with dynamic fit-to-screen scaling, while Single mode lets you focus on one page at a time. When odd/even page offsets break the visual flow of a spread, the Shift function nudges the sequence by exactly one page to restore perfect alignment — all with a single click.

🔁 3. Right-to-Left / Left-to-Right Toggle with Synced Slider

Instantly switch between the right-to-left reading order native to Japanese manga and the left-to-right order suited to Western comics and video. When you switch direction, the seek bar at the bottom automatically flips its progression to match — page 1 sits at the right edge in RTL mode and the left edge in LTR mode — for a completely intuitive reading experience.

🚀 4. NeeView-Style Asynchronous Preload Engine

A background concurrent-processing engine eliminates page-turn stutter entirely for buttery-smooth scrolling. A low-priority background thread pre-decodes the next several pages you're about to reach, without ever interrupting the main GUI. The app automatically detects your scroll direction and instantly cancels any now-unneeded preload requests within milliseconds, keeping memory and CPU usage tightly under control.

🔍 5. High-Performance "Warp-Click" Zoom

A professional-grade zoom tool for instantly magnifying fine text, handwriting, or illustration detail. Press and hold the left mouse button anywhere on the canvas, and the view smoothly zooms in on that exact point to your configured magnification (2.0x / 3.0x / 4.0x). Keep holding and move the mouse to freely pan around while zoomed in. The instant you release, the zoom snaps back to a perfect fit-to-screen view almost instantly.

6. 15-Slot Multi-Bookshelf Quick Access System

Up to 15 individually named bookshelf slots let you organize favorite manga folders and archives by category or series. Switching between "Home" and "Quick Access 1–15" in the dropdown instantly loads that shelf's contents. Simply edit the dropdown text directly to rename any slot to something meaningful, like "Currently Reading." A right-click menu also offers "Add to Quick Access," "Remove from Favorites," and "Open in Finder/Explorer."

🔖 7. Lazy-Evaluated Auto-Bookmark with Instant-Start Boost

The moment you close a book — or open a different one — ComicSnap automatically remembers exactly which page you reached as a bookmark. Next time you open that book, reading resumes instantly right where you left off. It also completely eliminates the freeze that comes from eagerly decoding every single page on open: at startup, only the two pages around your bookmark are decoded first, while unread later pages stay as lightweight placeholders until you actually reach them — cutting the wait when opening a book down to about 0.1 seconds.

🌳 8. Smart Keyboard Navigation for the Folder Tree

Navigate the folder tree on the left entirely with keyboard arrow keys and shortcuts, no mouse required. "Collapse All" intelligently leaves the first level below root expanded for easy browsing (fully collapsing instead on Windows). `Shift+Left` returns to the parent folder and auto-collapses the level you left; `Shift+Right` expands or collapses the current selection; `Shift+Up/Down` moves the selection to the folder immediately above or below; `Shift+Enter` instantly loads the selected folder into the viewer as a book.

🎨 9. Three Color Themes with Independent Font Sizing

Fully customize the color scheme and text size to match your room's lighting, reading environment, or personal taste. Apply the eye-friendly deep-black "Dark" theme, the elegant paper-like "Sepia" theme, or the bright, clean "White" theme with a single touch. From the settings screen, independently adjust font sizes (in pt) for "system-wide text (menus, etc.)," "buttons," and "tree view / file list" — and the moment you save, the entire screen resizes smoothly and takes effect instantly.

🔐 10. Robust License Management via OS Keychain

As a security and trial-management measure, once you've opened 4 or more books in trial mode, reading automatically stops the moment you reach page 50 of any subsequent book (video playback is capped at 10 minutes), prompting a license-key entry screen to purchase the full version. Your activated license key and viewing history are stored not in easily accessible files or the registry, but in the OS's own top-level encrypted security storage — Windows Credential Manager or the macOS Login Keychain — for commercial-grade license protection that survives accidental config-file deletion.

🗂️ 11. Built-In File Manager (File Mode)

Toggle between "Entertainment Mode" (read-only) and "File Mode" with one click on the toolbar. While File Mode is on, the folder tree, content list, and canvas area all support drag-and-drop, letting you freely move any type of file between folders (though only image and video formats the app supports are recognized as "viewable" content in the list). Drop files in from Explorer/Finder, or drag them between the tree and list inside the app. A warning-colored border appears around active areas while File Mode is on to prevent accidental edits. Large batches of files are copied/moved on a dedicated background thread so the app never freezes, and a confirmation dialog appears whenever a move would overwrite a same-named file.

🎬 12. Video Playback & Recording (Segment Export)

Play video files in the six major formats `MP4`, `M4V`, `MOV`, `AVI`, `WEBM`, and `MKV` with the exact same seamless feel as image archives. Save any scene during playback with one click for a full-screen capture, or use "✂️ Crop Capture" to save just the region you want. You can also mark an in-point and out-point during playback and export that segment as its own video file with zero quality loss, using lossless stream-copy. Export runs asynchronously in the background via FFmpeg, so the screen never freezes during processing (this feature requires an ffmpeg binary bundled in the same folder as the app).

🔲 13. Free Window Move & Resize via Corner Multi-Handles

Handles at all four corners (top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right) let you move and resize the window intuitively, without hunting for a thin window border. Dragging any handle smoothly moves the whole window; holding `Shift` while dragging resizes freely from that specific corner (with unnecessary layout constraints removed). Double-clicking a handle instantly toggles between maximized and restored window size.

🎞️ 14. Slideshow with 0.1-Second to 10-Minute Intervals

A slideshow feature lets you set the interval anywhere from a lightning-fast 0.1 seconds up to a leisurely 10 minutes (600 seconds). Load an archive of beautiful artwork and let it play slowly, and your screen turns into a stylish digital art frame. Choose "🔁 Loop" to return to the first page and repeat once the end is reached, or "➡️ Single" to stop after one pass.
